Speaker Series: Myofascial pain and muscle spasm management

This publication summarises a Healthed presentation given by pain specialist, Associate Professor Marc Russo, in September 2024. Dr Marc Russo has been using orphenadrine tablets for about 25 years. When he first started in the field of pain medicine, he saw many patients with myofascial pain, but at that time, there was generally limited physician knowledge about how best to treat these patients. Marc found that orphenadrine was particularly useful for treating myofascial pain and muscle spasm and he has continued to use orphenadrine-containing products since the late 1990s.

In 2024, the knowledge base among clinicians regarding the therapeutic role and potential benefits of orphenadrine in treating myofascial pain and muscle spasm is relatively limited. Therefore, this review highlights the identification and management of myofascial pain and muscle spasm and focuses on the mechanisms of action and clinical efficacy and safety of orphenadrine (± paracetamol) in these indications.
