Product Review: Vimpat® (lacosamide) for adult and paediatric epilepsy

This review discusses the evidence supporting the use of lacosamide in the adjunctive treatment of generalised onset epilepsy in adults and in paediatric patients. Lacosamide is a third-generation antiseizure medication (ASM), approved as monotherapy (in patients aged ≥16 years) or add-on therapy (in patients aged ≥4 years) in the treatment of focal (partial) onset seizures with or without secondary generalisation in patients with epilepsy, as well as for the treatment of primary generalised tonic-clonic (Grand mal) seizures in patients with idiopathic generalised epilepsy aged ≥4 years. This review is sponsored by CSL Seqirus (NZ) Ltd.

The seizure type terminology used in this review is derived from the 2017 International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) revised classification of seizure types, except where the registered indication for lacosamide is discussed in which case the previous terminology is used.
